Chen Xiaoming died on July 1 at a civilian hospital in Shanghai, a few days after authorities released him on medical parole, fellow activist Liu Anjun and the New York-based Human Rights in China organisation said.

He was then charged with “disturbing order” at a 2004 trial of yet another housing campaigner, and sentenced to two years’ jail in January this year, according to Human Rights in China."
