Conversely, Miranda, a wrestler who won bronze in Athens, stood tall on the issue. So did softball player Jessica Mendoza.

Just graduated from Yale Law School, Miranda is involved with the organization Human Rights in China. Mendoza is active in Team Darfur, which was started in part by Joey Cheek, the gold medal skater at the 2006 Games.

Miranda has been involved in a monthly project monitoring how China is doing with those human rights promises — it's doing poorly — and she is vocal in her findings, especially among other athletes.
