The New-York based group Human Rights in China said the investigation by the local police authority was a farce. It demanded an independent inquiry into the Zigui Public Security Bureau, which it said had refused "to disclose the experts who determined that Mr Fu could have single-handedly struck himself from behind with such force as to shatter three of his vertebrae".
