Tan Zuoren: Hunger Strike Statement

May 4, 2016

Tan Zuoren, well-known environmental and human rights activist, was among the first participants of the “Save Guo Feixiong Hunger Strike Relay.” In this statement, Tan explains that a decade ago, when Guo was on hunger strike in prison, members of the Chengdu Study Group organized a hunger strike relay and signature campaign to show solidarity with him. Tan says that, today, in order to save Guo Feixiong and to strive for fundamental rights for China’s political prisoners, he voluntarily chose to go on hunger strike again for 24 hours, in a show of political resistance.
