Urgent Attention: Shanghai Activists Xu Peiling and Cui Fufang Again Arrested For Assisting Elections

November 13, 2016

Well-known Shanghai activist, Feng Zhenghu, is running for election as a deputy to the People's Congress for the Yangpu District in Shanghai. On November 13, two of his volunteers, Xu Peiling and Cui Fufang, were helping to hand out promotional materials for his campaign to his constituents when they were taken away by police around 3:00 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. they had still not been released. Feng Zhengghu urgently requests that the police handle their cases equitably and in accordance with the law. He also calls for the release of Xu Peiling, Cui Fufang, and others as soon as possible, demanding that the legitimate rights of citizens to run for office and participate in the election process be protected.
