Sharon Hom, the Executive Director of Human Rights in China believes that the Chinese 'reform through labour' system is at the heart of the matter.

But according to Sharon Hom, there are ways of making sure that those products you buy have been ethically produced. Certain manufacturers and retail outlets are doing better than others.
"Some companies have ethical sourcing or use independent monitoring of their supply chain. So a consumer, as we come into the holiday season, should do a little extra work and go online and check out whether these brands have these sort of protections in place."
