Wu Gaoxing, a former educator in his late 60s, was detained by police on May 30 at his home in the eastern Chinese city of Taizhou, shortly after the publication of a letter he had co-signed complaining about economic discrimination against dissidents, reported AP Jun 2, citing New York-based Human Rights in China. The letter, addressed to President Hu Jintao and other top communist leaders, was reported to say former political prisoners were unable to find steady jobs and were deprived of medical benefits and pensions.
