The court said Hu Jia was convicted of 'an attempt to subvert the state's political and socialist systems' through two online articles critcizing political positions of the ruling Communist Party.
He was tried on March 18 in a hearing that US-based Human Rights in China called a 'sham' and 'part of an ongoing pattern of politicized prosecutions'.
