Event: Beijing Olympics 2008: Winning Press Freedom
Dates: April 18-19, 2008

Location: Paris, France
Venue: Maison de la Chimie - 28 rue Saint-Dominique - 75007 Paris

"Beijing Olympics 2008: Winning Press Freedom" will examine the situation of the press in China"print, broadcast and online media"with a particular focus on the conditions under which foreign journalists may work in China before and during the Olympics.

Human Rights in China is co-sponsoring the event along with The World Association of Newspapers, The World Press Freedom Committee, and Reporters Without Borders.

Speakers will represent Olympics authorities, Chinese news outlets, foreign news media, and experts specializing on China, human rights defenders, sports journalism services, and businesses providing communication services in China.

Sports and other journalists interested in China, especially if they intend to cover this summer's Games, are invited to register for the conference. The conference organizers, unfortunately, cannot finance those attending, but there is no charge for attendance.

Sharon Hom, HRIC's executive director, will be moderating a panel called "Trading with China: What risks, responsibilities, opportunities?" Other sessions will examine press freedom in relation to the Olympics, the reporting conditions journalists - particularly sports journalists – will encounter in China, and the limits and freedoms regarding the Internet in China.
