HRIC Pays Tribute to Arthur C. Helton

September 19, 2003

HRIC notes with sadness the death of board member Arthur C. Helton. Mr. Helton, the director of peace and conflict studies at the Council on Foreign Relations and senior fellow for refugee studies and preventative action, was killed in August 2003 by a bomb blast at the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad.

An author, scholar, lawyer, and activist, Mr. Helton devoted his professional life to advancing and protecting human rights around the world. HRIC honors his memory by continuing this important work and extends our sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues.
