Authorities secretly detain Professor Wang Daqi

On January 24, 2002, Wang Daqi, 70, professor of construction at Hefei Industrial University, and editor of Ecology magazine, was secretly detained by Chinese authorities. Approximately seven officers from the State Security Bureau confiscated Wang's journal, name cards, telephone book, and other items from his home.

Ecology magazine attracted the attention of Chinese authorities when Wang began concentrating on societal problems after the Beijing Massacre in 1989. Wang continued to publish the magazine after authorities asked him to stop.
