全美学自联:全美中国学生学者自治联合会(IFCSS)对杨舒平同学毕业演讲事件的声明

5月21日,马里兰大学毕业生Shuping Yang(杨舒平)在毕业演讲中对比中美空气质量,并回味自己在美国感受到的“自由的空气”,被该校多名中国同学批为“辱华”。事后杨同学受到来自中共官媒和社交媒体的围攻,甚至遭到网络暴力威胁。全美学自联对此深表关注。

全美学自联注意到,杨同学对空气质量的点评笼统而具有艺术性,或许不能同时适用于每个中国城市。但作为华人,我们并没有因此被激怒,反而欣赏她直面问题的勇气。然而在制作视频反驳的马大同学看来,似乎雾霾不怎么影响中国的美丽,而说出问题的人却侮辱了中国。

我们还注意到,空气质量问题仅仅是一个引子,演讲者的真正目的是借此分享她所珍视的自由价值。她说:“自由是氧气,自由是激情,自由是爱”,并引用萨特的话鼓励同学们保护言说的自由。全美学自联成员都和她有类似经历,深深体会到专制社会和自由社会的不同。我们很高兴杨同学在自由的土地上完成了精神的觉醒,并非常赞赏她用一种勇敢而优美的方式精彩地展示了自己的心路历程。

杨同学事后遭到的网络霸陵有明显的中共当局舆论操作的影子,与九年前的王千源事件如出一辙。她不得不在48小时内致歉,可见她遭到巨大的精神压力,这正是中国不自由的最好注解。那些打着爱国旗号为污染和压迫背书的人,以及他们背后捍卫雾霾并输出言论审查的中共政权,他们才是真正辱华、应该道歉的人。

全美学自联高度赞赏Shuping Yang同学的智慧和勇气,希望她坚强地面对这个艰难时刻。我们也提醒美国大学和社会各界注意,中共政权操纵的网络时代舆论攻势正在蚕食美国校园的言论自由。
