Three Domestic Security Agencies Prevent Shi Tao from Participating in Poetry Association Meeting

July 5, 2017

Now out of prison for close to four years, Ningxia poet Shi Tao is a member of the Shanghai Writers’ Association’s third creative writing class for young people. He received an invitation to attend a poetry association meeting held in Ningbo, and began preparation for the event. However, three domestic security agencies worked in concert, and prevented him from traveling.

Shi Tao is a former journalist who in 2004 was arrested for sending a government document overseas through Yahoo! Mail regarding how the media was going to cover the fifteenth anniversary of June Fourth. He was later sentenced to ten years and was released on August 23, 2013.
