November 18, 2009

HRIC Executive Director Sharon Hom speaking with KPFA:

“Obama didn’t have the live broadcast that his predecessors had, and I think they were actually a little bit concerned about the potential he would have if he were not so carefully stage managed. There is still the potential going forward for President Obama and the US government to take a much more rigorous position and we hope they will in the context of international human rights law because then the Chinese authorities cannot say, we have to look at the question of sovereignty and non-interference. That’s not what human rights is about - it’s about everyone.”
