Circumstances of Death Jiang left home at around 10:30 p.m. on June 3,1989. At about 11:00 p.m. behind the long flower bed in front of Building No.29 at Muxudi, a bullet went through the left-side of his back and came out his chest. He was taken to the Beijing Children's Hospital for emergency treatment, which failed to save him. The hospital certified that he was "dead on arrival." He was cremated on June 7 at Babaoshan and his ashes are kept at home.

Circumstances of Death Wang left home with a camera at 11 p.m. on June 3, 1989. In the early morning of June 4, he was shot at the south entrance of Nanchang Street. The bullet hit him in the head. Troops prevented a medical emergency team from giving him treatment. He died two or three hours later. Together with other corpses, his body was buried in front of Beijing City No.28 Middle School, to the west of Tiananmen Square. On June 7, due to the pungent smell of these corpses, the school complained to the authorities and the bodies were exhumed. Since Wang had been wearing army clothing, he was thought to be a soldier of the martial law troops. His body was therefore taken to Huguosi Hospital and was located by his family on June 16. On June 26, Beijing Public Security Bureau issued a certificate stating that he had "died when outside," making it possible for his body to be cremated at Babaoshan. Ashes of his remains are now in the Remains Hall of Wanan Public Cemetery.

Circumstances of Death Yang was shot by the martial law troops outside the Public Security Bureau at East Chang'an Boulevard in the early morning of June 4, 1989. He was hit in the abdomen by an exploding bullet. He was taken to the Tongren Hospital for emergency treatment. His bladder and pelvis were shattered. After an operation, high fever persisted. He died on June 7, 1989. After cremation, his ashes were placed in the Remains Hall of Wanan Public Cemetery.

Circumstances of Death Xiao had a train ticket to Chengdu, Sichuan dated June 5, 1989. At about 2:00 p.m., he was walking on the south side of Nanchizi. When he was crossing the road, he passed over the red enforcement line and when he failed to heed the "stop" shout of the martial law troops, he was shot dead by a bullet in the back which came out through the chest. At about 4:00 p.m., the Public Security Bureau, having found his student ID on his body, informed the university to collect his corpse.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, while taking photographs on top of a building by the northwest side of the Great Hall of the People, Chen was hit in the head by a bullet and killed instantly. After his death, his classmates pooled together enough money to purchase a plot of land near Jinshan Cemetery at Hongqi Village in Xiangshan to bury his remains. A gravestone was also erected there.

Circumstances of Death In the early morning of June 4, 1989, Xie was first injured by batons at Liubukou. Then he was hit in the chest by a bullet. He died at the City Emergency Center. He had a camera with him.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, his birthday, Xiao went to Muxudi with a view to persuading the students to return to school. He was hit in the right side of the chest by a bullet and died at Fuxing Hospital. After cremation, his remains were returned to his native place in Longshan county in the west of Hunan province.

Circumstances of Death Wearing a singlet bearing the Beijing University logo and a pair of jeans, in the early morning of June 4, 1989, Sun was bicycling around looking for classmates who had been dispersed by the martial law troops. He was shot at Xidan and died there. After cremation, his remains were placed in the Hall of Laoshan for three years. They are now at his family home in Ningxia province.

Circumstances of Death Lu was shot dead by the martial law troops at Muxudi on the night of June 3, 1989. Before he died, he gave his ID to a pedestrian for him to bring back to the University. His body was retrieved by the university and cremated.

Circumstances of Death Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on June 3, 1989, Zhang and her elder brother, sister-in-law and others were returning from a relative's place in Zhushikou. On their way, they were blocked at Qianmen and dispersed by the martial law troops. Zhang and her sister-in-law hid behind a bush on the west side of Qianmen. A bullet hit her in the left side of the chest and main artery and went through her back. She was taken to the City Emergency Centre and died in the early hours of June 4, 1989. Her remains were buried at the Taiziyu Public Cemetery.

Circumstances of Death At about 12 midnight on June 3, 1989, Zhang was hiding with her boyfriend Hao Gang in a lane close to the Minorities Palace. She was shot in the head by the martial law troops and died on the morning of June 4 at the Posts Hospital. Her body was cremated on June 14, 1989 at the Taiziyu Public Cemetery.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, Duan left home on his bicycle, and encountered the martial law troops involved in a confrontation with a crowd of people in the vicinity of the Minorities Palace. He went up to mediate and was shot in the chest at close range by a small pistol. He died in the early morning of June 4 at the Posts Hospital. His ashes are kept at the Wanan Public Cemetery in the western suburbs.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, Wang was shot in the neck while trying to attend to the wounded near Muxudi. She was taken to Beijing University Hospital, but attempts to save her life failed. Her ashes were buried in the Wanan Public Cemetery. On the tombstone is written her name, identity, dates of birth and of death: "Born on December 21, 1964. Died as a victim on June 3, 1989."

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, Wang was shot in the left side of the chest at Xidan. His lung was badly damaged and he died in the Beijing Emergency Center in the early hours of June 4. His ashes are buried on a farmer's land on the outskirts of Beijing.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, Ye was shot at Muxudi and died at the Naval General Hospital at around 2:00 a.m. on June 4. He was shot three times, with an external wound in his right shoulder, and internal wounds in the right side of his chest and at the right lateral part of his brain. Initially designated Unidentified Body No.1 in the Naval General Hospital, his family identified his body on June 5. His ashes are kept at home.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, Wu left school on a bicycle carrying a camera. He was hit in the back of the head by a bullet, and also had gunshot wounds in his shoulder, ribs and arm. After he felt to the ground, he was stabbed with a bayonet in his belly, as he had a two-inch long knife wound, and there were knife cuts in the palms of his hands. As an old person was taking him to the Posts Hospital, he told this person what university he was at and then died. On the morning of June 4, Professor Jiang Peikun, while searching for the body of his son, discovered Wu's body in the Posts Hospital. Jiang was entrusted by the hospital to bring the name list back to school. After cremation, Wu's ashes were taken back by his parents. Wu participated in the students' hunger strike for five days.

Circumstances of Death Around 12 midnight on June 6, 1989, An and five other young people (four men and two women: Wang Zhengqiang and his girlfriend, Wang Zhengsheng and his girlfriend, Yang Ziming and his brother, Yang Ziping [see No. 121])were at the intersection of Nanlishi Road when martial law troops shouted at them to halt, and then sprayed them with gunfire. The Wangs and the Yangs were all shot, and were taken to Fuxing Hospital. Wang Zhengsheng [see No. 39] died.The two women knelt down, begging for mercy, and were spared. An Ji was shot in the upper back and the bullet went diagonally through his body, exiting from his chest. He died at 4:00 a.m. on June 7 at the Children's Hospital. After cremation, his ashes were placed at the Futian Public Cemetery in the western suburbs.

Circumstances of Death At 2:00 a.m. on June 4, 1989, the martial law troops came into confrontation with civilians on Nanchizi all the way up to the History Museum. The soldiers fired at the people four times and Yu was among the first group who were hit. A bullet pierced through his left lower ribs and came out through his right upper ribs, injuring eight of his organs including his liver, kidney and lungs. His spinal column was damaged and bones were broken. He underwent four major operations in the Xiehe Hospital, including having one of his kidneys removed. His fever did not go down and the 20 days of efforts to save his life were in vain. He eventually died in the hospital on June 30.

He died in spite of emergency treatment received in the Naval General Hospital. After cremation, his remains were buried at the Taiziyu Public Cemetery in the Funan section, row 11.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, at about 10:00 p.m., Qian was returning home by bicycle with a classmate surnamed Yuan. They had just turned into Beifengwo Road having passed Muxudi, when they encountered martial law troops firing from the west toward the east. In a spray of gunfire, many people at the side of the road were hit. Both Qian and Yuan were hit in the abdomen by bullets, and were taken to the Railways General Hospital. Because one of Qian's arteries had been severed, he died in the hospital on June 5. His ashes are in Suzhou.

Circumstances of Death In the early hours of June 4, 1989, Liu was shot in the abdomen at Qianmen. His intestines squeezed out and his schoolmates pressed them in and covered his abdomen with a small basin. He was still alive on the way to the hospital, but eventually died in the arms of his schoolmates.

He was shot twice, in the chest and in the arm. After cremation, his ashes were stored in the Hall of Babaoshan for three years. Later, they were transferred to Dongsheng Hall.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, 1989, Dai set off to Qianmen to go to work, but was blocked at the Minorities Hotel. He was shot in the back, and was taken to the Posts Hospital. He died in the early morning of June 4 from loss of blood.

Circumstances of Death At around 11:00 p.m, on June 3, 1989, Wu was hit in the neck by an exploding bullet near the Muxudi overpass. He was taken to Fuxing Hospital by the people, and at around 5:00 a.m. on June 4 he died due to loss of blood. Before his death, his mind was clear, and he wrote the address of his work unit on a 10 fen note with his own hand and gave it to a student at the Beijing Aviation College so he could report the news. On the evening of June 4, family members identified his body. On June 7 he was cremated in the eastern suburbs, and his ashes are in the public cemetery at Babaoshan, in section 2, row 3.

Circumstances of Death At around 12 midnight on June 3, 1989, Liu was hit in the chest by a bullet at the entrance to Xidan. He was taken to Erlong Hospital, but efforts to save him did not succeed. His ashes are in the Taiziyu Public Cemetery in the Funan Section, row 7.

Circumstances of Death At around 2:00 a.m. on June 4, 1989, Lai was shot at the intersection between west Chang'an Boulevard and Nanchang Road. The bullet entered his forehead and exited at the left side of the back of his head, and the entry wound was about 10mm in diameter. He was taken to the hospital attached to Beijing Medical College, but efforts to save his life were unsuccessful and he died around 6:00 a.m. The cause of death stated by Beijing Medical College was "accidental injury." His body was taken to Beijing Medical College, where a memorial service was held. His family came to collect his ashes and took them back to Yongning County, Guangxi.

Circumstances of Death At around 11:00 p.m. on June 3, 1989, Dong was hit with an exploding bullet at Hedongan, Muxudi. He was sent to Fuxing Hospital. Four others were shot at the same time. One was hit in the main artery of the leg, and died from loss of blood. The three others were sent to Fuxing Hospital. Among them was a person who worked at a television station and was wounded in the same place as Dong Lin. They underwent the same kind of surgery and both died on the night of June 4 because there was not enough blood for transfusions.

Circumstances of Death Guo was shot in the head in the early morning of June 4, 1989. He died instantly, with half of his face blown off. His body was placed in the main building of the University of Politics and Law. A few days later, it was taken back to the Beijing Aviation University.

Circumstances of Death In the early hours of June 4, 1989, Lin and his schoolmate Wang Kuanbao withdrew from Tiananmen Square together. He was crushed by a tank when they reached Liubukou. He was married, and was planning to go to Japan in October 1989.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, Sun left home to look for his younger brother. He was shot by the martial law troops on the south side of the No.110 Bus Terminal near Hong Temple in the eastern suburbs of Beijing. The bullet damaged his spinal cord at the fourth vertebra of his neck. He received emergency treatment at Chaoyang Hospital but died six months later.

Circumstances of Death In the early morning of June 5, 1989, outside the entrance of the Broadcasting College, a heavy artillery bullet from a tank shattered Qian's bladder. Another bullet penetrated the artery of his upper leg, but still did not kill him. He told his companions, "Watch out! The tank has not left yet!" They dragged him into the campus where he died, leaving a trail of blood one hundred meters long.

A few days before she killed herself, she wrote a letter to her parents, saying that she was indebted to them for their care in raising her. Ten minutes before her death, she even helped other students by filling up several kettles of water for her dormitory.

As a freshman in high school, at the age of 15, he was accepted to Qinghua University. In 1987, solely upon the recommendation of Qinghua University, he was accepted as a master's student in computer technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His remains were taken back to his hometown in Heilongjiang and buried at the southern peak of Xiaoqing Mountain, of the Wandashan Mountain Range.

He was sent to No.301 Hospital, but a soldier carrying a gun ordered the doctor not to save Song and not to give him any blood. Ultimately, Song lost too much blood and died in the early morning of June 4. His mother died soon thereafter from kidney failure. Song's remains are buried at Taiziyu Public Cemetery, Plot 83. There is no gravestone.

Before his death, his mind was clear, and he wrote the address of his work unit on a 10 fen note with his own hand and gave it to a student at the Beijing Aviation College so he could report the news. On the evening of June 4, family members identified his body. On June 7 he was cremated in the eastern suburbs, and his ashes are in the public cemetery at Babaoshan, in section 2, row 3.

He was taken to the hospital attached to Beijing Medical College, but efforts to save his life were unsuccessful and he died around 6:00 a.m. The cause of death stated by Beijing Medical College was "accidental injury." His body was taken to Beijing Medical College, where a memorial service was held. His family came to collect his ashes and took them back to Yongning County, Guangxi.

Circumstances of Death During the days of the Tiananmen movement, Ren had gone to Inner Mongolia to see his wife who had just given birth (his wife is from Inner Mongolia). He was in Beijing on June 4 on his way back to Hebei. He was shot in the abdomen by the martial law troops and was taken Beijing Xiehe Hospital, with his intestines spilling out. The hospital diagnosed his condition untreatable and moved him to the mortuary. Later, however, he was found still alive and his family was notified. Due to a lack of money, his family could not let him stay at the hospital and his brother-in-law took him back home to Hebei Province. There, again due to lack of money, he received inadequate treatment and his exposed intestines were found to be putrefying. When he could no longer bear the pain, he committed suicide by hanging the day after the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival.

He ran to hide with a friend in the nearby Nonferrous Metals Institute, but the troops followed him and shot him in the chest. He was taken to the Railroad Hospital and died after treatment failed. The death certificate from the hospital states, "Shot in right side of chest and a vein in the lung, shock from severe loss of blood. Died at 23:45, June 3, 1989." After his death, Sun's workplace classified it as "death from disease." His former classmates donated money to install his remains at Babaoshan Cemetery.

The security guard suddenly leaned forward (someone said he was shot), and Li was about to assist him when he was shot in the chest. The bullet pierced through his body and exited his back on the right side, damaging his heart. He was taken into No.301 Hospital, but treatment failed and he died one hour later.

He was sent to the Friendship Hospital for treatment. His intestines were severely injured and only about 2 meters of them could be repaired, the rest were too damaged. After surgery, his fever remained very high and he died after 9:00 p.m. on June 4. His workplace treated his death as a normal death. His ashes were buried in his place of origin, Wenan.

On June 9, his body was taken to the Fuxing Hospital and left with other corpses in the bicycle shed. His body was located by his family on June 11. The Shijingshan spital issued a certificate of accidental death for him and held a memorial service. He was buried in Babaoshan Cemetery.

In 1990, his work unit issued a certificate stating that he had died an "unnatural death," and adding that "he violated martial law and should be responsible for the consequences." His family was paid 835 yuan-an amount equal to his basic wage for ten months. Two of Ni's companions-Cao Changren and Wang Jianwei-were injured in the incident.

He was buried in Babaoshan. His father later wrote a letter to the CCP Central Committee, lodging a complaint against the Public Security Bureau of Xicheng District and Premier Li Peng. He has never received a reply.

Then one went east, one went south and Cui went west. Gunshots were heard, and Cui never returned. The two others returned to their homes safely. Cui's family searched many hospitals but found no trace of him. To this day, he has not been seen, either dead or alive.
