Photos: Lawyers Protest to Demand Access to Activists by Zhengzhou Authorities

Lawyers have responded to Zhengzhou authorities’ refusal to allow them to meet their clients— detained prior to June Fourth—by staging repeated protests. On June 7, approximately 20 lawyers staged an overnight protest outside the Zhengzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau. On June 11, rights defense lawyers Lin Qilei (蔺其磊), Liu Weiguo (刘卫国), and Chen Jiangang (陈健刚) protested outside the Zhengzhou No. 3 Detention Center where the activists are being held. Additionally, nearly 30 Lawyers participated in a criminal procedure practice seminar concerning lawyers’ right to meet clients. The lawyers argue that Zhengzhou No. 3 Detention Center should arrange client-lawyer meetings upon request.

Among the activists detained at Zhengzhou No. 3 Detention Center are: Chang Boyang(常伯阳), Ji Laisong(姬来松), Jia Lingmin(贾灵敏), Liu Diwei(刘地伟), Shi Yu(石玉), Yu Shiwen(于世文), Fang Yan(方言),  Hou Shuai(侯帅), Chen Wei(陈卫).
