In this statement delivered on January 24, 2014 at the Guangdong Municipal Tianhe District People’s Court, Liu Yuandong’s lawyer, Liu Zhengqing, argued that the charges brought against his client have no factual and legal basis. Liu Zhengqing said the prosecution is a political persecution from the very beginning, in reprisal against his client's peaceful expression of political opinions and aspirations for constitutional democracy.
