On June 27, 2014, more than 1,000 Hong Kong lawyers—as many as 1,800 by some estimates—marched to protest what they saw as Beijing’s interference in Hong Kong’s judicial independence.

On June 20, 2014, concerned citizens of Hong Kong took to the streets to sing for democracy as a ten-day unofficial referendum on election proposals began.
